Care and Grooming

Poodles have a double coat that can grow very fast and require frequent brushing and combing. The coat should be clipped or it will become matted or tangled. They should also be bathed every 4-6 weeks. It is important to regularly check and clean the ears and eyes, trim the nails, and brush the teeth.

Training and Socialization

Poodles are intelligent and respond quickly and positively to training. They are very trainable with a potential for mastering complex tasks. Early and consistent socialization is important to prevent the development of fearfulness and aggression.

Health and Wellness

Standard Poodles are prone to various health issues including hip dysplasia, epilepsy, lens luxation, cancer, allergies, and Von Willebrands disease. Regular check-ups, vaccinations, dental care, and weight management are important for all poodles.

Living Environment

Poodles are active, so access to an outdoor yard or regular daily exercise is imperative. Poodles do not do well when kenneled for long periods of time and are not suited to apartment living.

The standard Poodle is enthusiastic and sensitive. These dogs are friendly and devoted to their family, and are eager to please. They are alert, intelligent, and active. They can become anxious and vocal when left alone for extended periods of time.
