Keeshond

Breed Overview

Keeshonds are medium-sized, Spitz-type dogs that originate from the Netherlands and were historically used as watchdogs. Their long, fluffy fur with silver and black markings is quite distinctive. Fully grown Keeshonds typically stand 18-20 inches tall and weigh between 30 and 60 pounds.

Care and Grooming

Keeshonds have a double coat, with the outer coat being thick and harsher and the inner being softer and wooly. Brushing the coat at least two to three times a week is recommended to keep Keeshonds looking and feeling their best. As they are an active breed, they will need regular exercise and grooming to keep them healthy and happy.

Due to their sturdy build, a house or apartment with a yard should be suitable for providing them with the active lifestyle they need. They are not recommended for those living in hot climates due to their dense coats.

Keeshonds are an affectionate and loyal breed that enjoy spending time with their family, though they can also be independent and have a tendency to be wary of strangers. They are generally very friendly with children and other Pets but may bark excessively if not trained and socialized properly.

Common Challenges
