Eurasier Dog Breed Overview

The Eurasier is a fairly new and relatively rare spitz-type dog breed that originated in Germany in the 1960s. This breed is a mix between a Wolfspitz, Chow Chow, and a Samoyed and is considered to be an active and intelligent working dog. They are loyal, confident, and friendly with those they trust. They have a gentle and loyal personality and make good family dogs with proper training and socialization.

Care and Grooming

The Eurasier breed has a double coat that requires regular brushing to maintain. They have a tight, water-repellent outer coat and thick, woolly inner coat, so typically require brushing 2–3 times a week. Some Eurasiers may require more frequent brushing during shedding season. They are relatively low maintenance when it comes to grooming, but they should have their ears and eyes checked regularly and brushed teeth.

Training and Socialization

The Eurasier is considered to be an intelligent breed and responds best to consistent and positive training. Training should start early and be frequent to ensure they develop good behaviors and obedience. This breed does best with positive reinforcement and reward-based training. They also need early and frequent socialization to become well-rounded companions.

Health and Wellness

The Eurasier is generally a healthy and robust breed, but some of the issues they may be prone to include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and eye and ear conditions. Medical condition screening is important for all potential puppies and it’s best to inspect the parent’s health history before purchasing.

Living Environment

The Eurasier breed is an active working breed, so they need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. They are not suited for an apartment or small living space, as they need a house with a yard for regular activity and exercise. They should get at least 1 hour of activity each day and have frequent access to a safe outdoor space.

Temperament and Personality

The Eurasier has a friendly, loyal, and affectionate personality. They are loyal to their families and can be protective of them when necessary. They are usually good with children, but should always be supervised just to be safe. This breed does best in a home where they are the only pet and can get the attention they need.

Common Challenges
