Boston Terrier Overview

The Boston Terrier is a breed of small, friendly, intelligent and highly adaptable dogs. They are part of the Non-Sporting Group of breeds as defined by the American Kennel Club. In fact, many refer to them as “the American Gentleman” because of their dignified and debonair appearance. The Boston Terrier is a muscular, compact dog that stands between 15 and 17 inches tall at the shoulder, and weighs between 12 and 25 pounds.

Care and Grooming

Boston Terriers have a short, smooth coat that requires relatively little grooming. They should be brushed twice a week with a bristle brush and need occasional baths. They have no expensive or time-consuming requirements for grooming. However, their ears should be cleaned regularly to prevent infection, and their nails should be trimmed occasionally.

Training and Socialization

Boston Terriers are highly trainable dogs and require an owner who is patient, consistent, and knowledgeable about training techniques and dog behavior. They are eager to please and respond well to positive reinforcement, and with proper training can excel in obedience, agility, and other canine activities. Socialization is important for Boston Terriers, as they can become shy around unfamiliar people and aggressive towards other dogs if not socialized properly.

Boston Terriers require regular veterinary check ups. They can be prone to certain health issues such as eye problems, respiratory issues and heart murmurs. With proper feeding and exercise, they can live up to 15 years.

Boston Terriers are well suited to homes of all kinds, including apartments. They have a high energy level and need daily walks and playtime. They should also have plenty of stimulation throughout the day with toys and activities to keep them happy and healthy.

The Boston Terrier is a lively, good-natured, and loving breed of dog. They are gentle and sweet with children, but can be assertive and fearless when necessary. They are loyal and affectionate with family and friends, and make strong companions.
