The Braque Saint-Germain is a medium-sized pointer in the sporting family of gun dogs. Known as France’s native pointing breed, the Braque Saint-Germain is an intelligent, loyal, and active hunting and retrieving dog. The breed originated in France and is named for the area in which it was developed - the St. Germain hunting area in the Loire Valley of France. The breed was developed in the 1850s and 1860s and is one of the oldest pointing breeds in France. The Braque Saint-Germain is noted for its strong retrieving capabilities and is capable of hunting in water or on the land. Additionally, it excelled in its role as the trail-hunting dog for the King’s men.

Care and Grooming

The Braque St. Germain is a moderately easy-care breed. Their short coats require occasional brushing and combing to remove loose and dead hair and maintain their sleek looks.
